Hola Masti Magazine Editorial Team,
I know this submission comes at the last minute but as they say, it is better late than never!
Kirbee catches a Travofogue
Kirbee was a jolly good fellow living in a little village called Portree in Scotland. Now the village of Portree was beautiful with rolling hills, dark forests, charming huts with chimneys, and even a very still pond in whose waters, you could see a clear reflection of your face. The villagers knew each other life went about at a slow pace. The most exciting event in the past year was when a red fox grabbed one of Mr. Lachlan's sheep.
Kirbee spirit, however, seemed as though it was cut from a very different cloth. He was always looking for an adventure. The Portree elders felt that it was not a good thing for a young man to be so curious and warned him that will bring him no good. Not one to be tied down by an elder's advice, Kirbee regularly dropped to the edge of the forest and imagined it to be full of dragons and fairies. He would spend hours in the forest conjuring up places that he could visit and exotic foods that he could taste. Oh yes, Kirbee loved his scones and biscuits and the herbal tea that Mrs. Ridel always seemed to have a cup ready for him, whenever he passed by her kitchen window.
That Friday, the fog was a little thicker than usual and the birds seemed quieter than usual. Kirbee skipped down the lane to the forest by the pond. As he reached the banks of the pond, he slipped on some loose pebbles and tumbled into the pond! He braced himself for the cold splash of water but to his surprise found himself embraced in a warm, fluffy, cotton candy-like cloud. It rocked him gently and soon he drifted off into a deep sleep. In his dream, he heard different languages being spoken to him and was trying his best to follow the conversations. Soon, he felt his eyebrows tensing, and when he was least expecting it, came the cold splash of water on his face!
To be continued…..
Reader's Notes
Hi Y'all,
We will continue the stories of Kirbee in the next Masti Magazine issue but I will let you on to a secret, that might make the story more interesting for you — the reader. So read away…
Unknown to Kirkbee, he had slipped into a magical Travofogue. Now Travofogue's are everywhere. Ask any 8-year old and they will agree! They are magical puffs of white that look like regular fog. They appear in random places and whisk people who happen to walk, or even fall, into them. They take you with the wind, and across time, to the remotest corners and strangest periods of history in this world. Kids use them to even reach Fairyland (in you-know-where). The trick is not to fall asleep when you catch a Travofogue, so you are able to direct it to go where you want to go, else you may find yourself in a pickle! Did you know that dried and packaged, Travofogue is what is called Floo power in the wizarding world? Now, where have you read about it before? Wink!
Now, where in the world did Kirbee end up in the Travofogue that he fell into? He does not know it but you do, now — he has ended up in yet another sleepy little village in the middle of Kerala, called Koratty.
I know, we both sense an adventure in the making. "Kirbee in Koratty" will be something to look forward to. Why not be a part of the story making? Drop me your ideas for Kirbee's adventures on Discord and I will do my best to weave them into the next episodes. Until then, "Ithu Madhi".
